Fun Monday

It’s another Monday, and a rainy one it is. But, let us not to be discouraged, let the FUN begin. Monday means time for a regular feature…

Fun Monday!! Yes, that’s right…time for a blogger to set a challenge, so we can all get to know each other in this great ‘blogosphere’. ;P

This week’s Hostess: Jenni in KS / Prairie Air
The Challenge: Share one or more of your favorite summertime memories with us. It can be a childhood memory or more recent. The memory can be a vague conglomeration of how you spent summers past (catching fireflies, playing outside till dark, watermelon seed wars) or it can be a detailed memory of a specific event. You may write a poem or short story or just tell it like it was. The main idea is to communicate the essence of summer and what symbolizes the season in words and/or pictures.

Summertime memories…that’s assuming I can actually remember, which is assuming a lot some days. *lol* Anyway, cooking dinner one night recently I found the following quotation:

The fondest memories are built one smile at a time.

This quote comes from a pint of Daisy sour cream, and it speaks volumes. As I think back upon my life, The summertime brought many smiles. It was the end of another school year (melancholy moment: I actually liked school) but, all is not lost, for it was the beginning of camp in various shapes and forms.

Elementary years: Vacation bible school (VBS) was like a mini-camp, for we had so many daily activities. I learned my bible verses and all as one might expect. We ate lunch together – they always made something special for us. However, I loved craft time (the budding artist within me). I made stuff for both my family, friends and myself, having a blast doing it. It was like giving a part of myself to someone I love, and I loved it. Looking back upon it now, part of me realizes it may have started a cycle of destruction, perhaps I wouldn’t be so empty if I hadn’t given. But, another part of me slaps that side and says ‘hush, girl’ else you’ll cry or something equally horrible. (okay, moving on…)

Middle school years: Grew up to bigger camps – the all-day-away-from-home-for-weeks kind. No television (for campers), but loads of things to do, including climbing mountains, swimming, and lots of crafts. I remember each time I started at one, big time homesick blues set in (I did NOT want to go there, but was encouraged to try it anyhow), but by the end, I found it hard to leave for all the fun I had. (hate it when your parents are/were right sometimes -so irritating – dang it *lol*) Another lesson learned to take me through to the next stage(s) of life.

Those next stages will have to wait for another entry though, as I’ve rambled on enough now, eh. If you’d like to see more, go see some more participants of this summer memories challenge – click here.

Thanks for coming with me down memory lane. Was it as painful for you? Or can you relate to my monstrosity of memory recall? Tell me about it. Maybe the cells will connect again for a stroll sometime in the future, at which time you’re welcome down the path again. 🙂

Fun Monday – Rainy Day Shelving

It’s time for our semi-regular feature once again — Fun Monday!!

Hostess: Swampwitch of Anecdotes, Antidotes, and Anodes

Topic: Post pictures of your bookshelves or stacks of books. Hopefully, we will be able to read some of the titles. If you want, while you’re at it, post pictures of ANY shelves…shelves with toys, dishes, collections, Aunt Gertrude’s ashes in an urn, etc. Also, post pictures of your garage, carport, or places where you store ‘stuff.’  (No fair cleaning first, but if you must, maybe this will be the motivation to do so.)

Pictures of my books, eh…oh, where to start! Today, I’ll show my own recently acquired bookshelves, of which sits my nighttime reading material(s).

The first two shelves:
bookshelfsm

Extra tidbit: I’m published in one of them. 😛

And, the third shelf:

bookshelf3sm
This shelf holds some of my paperback collection. It’s usually cleaner than this, but I’m coming back from a chaotic week. And, yes, that bottom book is a college textbook, I re-read the plays of Shakespeare (etc.) occasionally. 😉

I’d show more storage, but as my weather pixie could tell you, it’s raining furiously at the moment, and limiting the functionality of what I can do. So, I’ll have to save that part for another venture. In the meantime, maybe I’ll go clean that third shelf. ;P

Thanks for stopping by…until later, taters!

–this post is again brought to you by Windows Live Writer, which I’m finding out is an excellent tool! Continued thanks go to the Houston Chronicle’s Dwight Silverman for recommending its use. I love this program! 🙂

Time for our semi-regular feature once again – Fun Monday!!

Hostess: Molly of Return of the White Robin

Topic: For this challenge, you have been asked to show us something that hangs on your wall that is fun, interesting, endearing, sentimental, or otherwise enticing. Select the picture of Uncle Horace, Grandma Galt’s needlepoint, or little Susie’s first fingerpainting to show the blogging community.

What an intriguing topic this is! (Oh my, I sound like Yoda from Star Wars) I can be very sentimental at times, however this topic is not as easy for me…I’ve had a hard time thinking of which things to pick! 😛

–Insert break as I decide which item will be showcased first–

First, we have a ceramic doll passed on from my grandmother.

ceramicdoll

I’m not sure from where she comes, but she sort of reminds me of a Little House/Dr.Quinn (1800’s) pretty [young] lady.

Second, we have one side of an autographed baseball.

baseball

The ball has signatures of the ‘86 Houston Astros baseball players. On this side, signatures included are Jose Cruz, Kevin Bass, Larry Andersen, Craig Reynolds and Alan Ashby.  Let’s hear it for orange rainbow shirt ‘Stros! Yay.

And third, this picture is of Dan, a bear that just needs a hug…

danbear

All together now: “Awwww….” He was given to me at a carnival by a high school [guy] friend, because he knew I liked stuffed animals. How sweet.

And, finally, we have a one-of-a-kind original – a watercolor painting.

h2ocolorpic

This flower pot painting was painted by an artistic friend of mine from my college days. She and I were good friends…and, I’ve her to thank for still remembering the Greek Alphabet during my sorority pledge week (makes me laugh just thinking of it!). I miss her and her kids terribly, and looking at the picture helps me remember the good times shared. The last time we talked, she tried to set me up with a guy friend (formally, to show him around town), but I lost my email and connection the next day. When I got it back, it was all gone. It still saddens me to think of the possibilities, and hope she doesn’t hate me for all the trouble (that’s my middle name – you know – or so it appears). Anyway, I wonder what they’re all up to these days – if she’s still with the same guy…if the kids have gotten married, etc. Typical stuff – LOL. Extra tidbit: her daughter narrowly missed being on that fatal flight in New York on 9/11. Yikes! My heart and prayers continue to go out to them, wherever they may roam.

That’s it for the moment…I hope you enjoyed this mini-tour through my stuff today. Adieu! 😀

Fun Monday # (?!?)

–This post is sponsored by Wakey’s, the [fake] online store for the sleep-deprived–
(If I had a sponsor, I could really see that store doing it at the moment – LOL)

It’s another…Fun Monday!

Our hostess: Joy of A Spot of T

The topic: Show your kitchen 🙂

For reason(s) I do not wish to divulge now, I’ve not a kitchen picture of my own to show. However, I’m not empty-handed, just taking a different direction. I’ve created a sort of almalgum of dream kitchens for my share today, for none had everything exactly what I personally like, or are at least good enough for entertainment purposes here. (perhaps I’m just being picky, but hey…it’s my dream. 😛 )

Here’s a picture of the almalgum (Oh how I love that word lately, can you tell?!):

For a larger look, see the site links I’ve provided. They’re even better than the screenshots. ;P

At position #1, we have a spacious kitchen, provided by Pride Originals, that includes wood cabinetry, wood floors, and stainless steal appliances. Also pictured is a glass china cabinet and desk area. Though I’m not crazy about the countertops (aside from the space), I like the lighting and can imagine working in this kitchen.

At position #2 is a county-esque kitchen with modern conveniences, provided by Country Road Associates. It has a wood ceiling, and a nice big island convenient for a quick meal or helper making dinner. The bright white is attractive here, and gives it a light, airy feel. The lighting is lovely, and the middle lights don’t hang too low, which is a pet peeve of mine (*Bonk!* is the sound of an instant headache from low lights).

And at #3, just for fun, we have a “circular kitchen” that provides all the modern conveniences in a compact space. It has shelving, utensil drawers, a dishwasher, a small stove, spice racks, a mini-fridge, a microwave and storage for dishes on top.
I think I imagined something like this thing when I was younger, but perhaps it was seeing too much “Back to the Future”. Wicked cool!

This concludes our kitchen tour. The exits are here, here, here, here, and everywhere! Please watch where you step, as I’m not responsible for falls and clean-ups out of this space. Thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoyed the ride, and come back soon. 😉

Fun Monday

–Warning: Sarcasm runs rampant within this blog when least expected, but not always–
Yep…it’s another Fun Monday. Wow. It’s almost becoming a routine for me here. 😛

Our Hostess-with-the-mostest: Karmyn of Dreaming WhatIfs…
For Date: June 4

Topic: I will be asking everyone to show me their “CRAFTY SIDE”….let us see something you’ve made – it can be ANYTHING – a table you made from 8th grade Shop class to your most recent burnt pot roast  or lopsided knitted sweater.  WHATEVER – just let it be your handiwork.:puts on Will Smith face: so, I gotta get crafty with it, eh?!
Okay, what to pick was the hard part for me on this one. Up until this moment (and perhaps beyond), I’d been thinking what to do. Because…I have too-much-crafty-junk!! LOL

All that said, I have two somethings to show. First up…

A reproduction of a drawing by Edward Lear (a non-sense artist/poet):
Edward Lear drawing - reproduced by me
It’s a freaked-out cat that says “What? Me, worry?!” I drew it a few years ago during a boredom spell at work one night. The picture still seems apropo to my life, which I suppose says a lot about me that I won’t openly admit. ;P

Another crafy thing I do is create web graphics, although except for a couple private projects, I’ve not done any graphics for a while. I lost a lot of graphics in a tragic computer mishap (still sucks to think about it). Here’s a representative from when I was in my “pixel stage”.
pixel fairy by me
This little fairy was created for one of my cyberfriends a while ago. I’m not sure she fully appreciated it, but I liked it from the beginning, and I kept it in my treasured memories, where in spite of everything it resides today. Whoa…is that a loaded statement. Maybe I’ll explain more – one day.

Anyway, that’s my shares. If you’ve any comments, well…you know what to do. Scribble away.  😀
