A quick slice of pie

In local news (about this blogger), I’ve updated my blog a bit and entered another book challenge on the 2013 bookshelf. Drawn to the beautiful graphic and the challenge enticed me like a Texan to barbecue. Hope things look a little better [on the blog] from the visitors’ end. Wish me luck on the rest. It’s about time something goes right again. I’m still thinking of doing a couple more challenges, so it may update the bookshelves again. It all depends on what I find via A Novel Challenge, my favorite site of the moment.
Oh, and a shout-out: I love my local library! They have proved once again how awesome they can be helping me out earlier today, all because I spoke up! If you’re nearby me, go visit them. If you’re not, go find one near you, for adventures are waiting to happen for you as well. 🙂

Book Challenges 2011

Let’s see if I can keep up with these challenges via post this year. Nah—I’m changing my mind to go to my 2011 page already because one challenge is so intertwined with my overall list. So, I’m just listing the challenges on one post and my book list via there. That way, it should be easier to find/update. Anyway…

Support Your Local Library Challenge
Hosted by: The Book Junkie’s Bookshelf
Challenge time: 1/1/11 – 12/31/11
This one is familiar to me, and dear to my heart for it involves supporting both the one’s local community and one’s passion for reading. Thanks go to Jamie for taking the reins after J. Kaye and continuing this challenge this year. The rules are simple, so do join with me.
There are 4 levels:
–The Mini – Check out and read 30 library books.
–"Fun" Size – Check out and read 40 library books.
–Jumbo Size – Check out and read 50 library books.
–Mega Size – Check out and read 51+ library books.
All types of books allowed, as long as they’re borrowed from the library.
I’m going for the big one: Mega Size! Of course, my eyes may be fried eggs at the end.Hypnotized

Christian Fiction Reading Challenge
Hosted by: The Book Junkie’s Bookshelf
Challenge time: 1/1/11 – 12/31/11
The challenge is to read 12 Christian-based fiction novels. I occasionally read this genre, so maybe I can do it.

Rainbow Challenge (via GoodReads)

Challenge: read books with covers featuring the following colors.
The colors are:

Booking it through Wednesday

Yeah, I know the thought: “Oh no, not more books!” My passion for books has had its way with me again, for better or worse. I’ve found some more challenges of which to participate, a neat little meme and just some more fabulous book blog sites out there. I’m telling you, some of these sites put my little blog to shame, but instead of looking with jealousy, I’ll just admire and aspire. 🙂

Weekly 100 Words

The blog-hopping meme is courteous of RuthiReads, and here’s a contribution from currently reading list.

"Mrs. Otis and I are from Whistle Stop, a little town about ten miles from, here, out by the railroad yards….She’s lived down the street from me for the past thirty years or so, and after her husband died, her son and daughter-in-law had a fit for her to come and live at the nursing home, and they asked me to come with her. I told them I’d stay with her for a while–she doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going back home just as soon as she gets settled in good.
It’s not too bad out here. The"…
-page 6 from Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

How does that sentence end? You’ve to read the book to find out that answer. This book has been on my To Be Read list for the longest. I found it on the shelves at my last library trip, and into my hands it jumped. And, yes, the movie “Friend Green Tomatoes” is based upon this book. 😀

What are you reading? Do tell. Maybe we can give each other ideas.

Next stop for me is preparing a book challenge post for couple (or so) challenges) after this post. Until then…
